The Education Fund was established to provide
financial assistance for advanced education or training to post-high
school students who are members of our parish. Funding comes from
donations made using the monthly envelope in the pack of church
envelopes and from contributions made in memory of a deceased loved one.
The funds accumulated each year are not very much and the amount awarded
each applicant depends on the size of the applicant pool. For this
reason we usually do not award grants to anyone pursuing a post-graduate
degree (i.e. Masters or Doctors) but place our emphasis on the years
immediately following high school—for both undergraduate college and for
technical school education.
Students: The Committee meets once a year,
usually around Labor Day, to review applications and award grants to
students. All applications are due by the last Sunday in August. We
encourage you to take a personal part in filling out your own
application. The information we ask for on the application form is
minimal and we don’t do any personal interviews. Any other pertinent
material you can attach to your application that augments the
application information helps us to get to know more about you and
distinguish you from the other applicants.
Parish community: We are always looking for
new committee members. This does not take very much of your time. We
meet only once a year, usually around Labor Day, to read through the
applications. There are only two committee officers. The Secretary is
responsible for getting announcements into our Church bulletin and
mailing the grants. The President/Treasurer schedules the annual
meeting, assembles the applications, gets a financial report from the
parish Business Manager, prepares a summary table of pertinent
information for the committee to compare, and arranges with our parish
Business Manager for checks for those awarded grants. The rest of the
committee members attend the one meeting and have a great opportunity to
learn about the latest generation of students going on from high school.
We encourage all of you to use your church
envelopes to make a monthly donation for this very worthy purpose.
